The message merely said that the parents whished the student to contact
them - it gave no details as to why; assuming the identity of the person on
the phone was genuine, consent had been given to pass this minimal
information on. We could not verify the identity of the caller, since all
contact had been made via the academic and he then contacted us for advice.

Did you have the parent's consent? Otherwise, isn't the fact that they
were worried just as much personal data? Or do you use some euphemism
like R4's appeals for relatives of people who are "dangerously ill" (ie
"dead").
