Tim
I have posted very (very) occasionally, but I think the thing is, from my
point of view at least, that the “few loudmouths” like you do in fact have
a great deal of expertise, and it’s at least possible that you’re more
knowledgeable than the majority of us?
My exposure to “real life” requests, SARs and related problems has been
limited and not allowed me to build up much practical know-how (which is
about to change – but that’s another story!), so I find the opportunity to
see how problems are being addressed by experienced practitioners a great
benefit.
I must admit it is a bit intimidating from time to time when the
forum’s “big guns” start to debate a complex and (from my perspective)
obscure point - the DP equivalent of “angels and pinheads”. However, the
discussion is often useful and usually enlightening. Don’t forget there is
also a vast resource in the form of the archive, where answers can be found
to a great many questions without recourse to the list.
It would also be interesting to know how much activity takes place “off-
list” where individual’s addresses have been picked off the post – I’ve
gone direct to other list members from time to time with queries and, more
rarely, suggestions.
You’ll just have to get used to being at the “bleeding edge” of DP
discussion :)
Keep up the good work
Steve
