I've just spent an incredibly frustrating quarter of an hour trying to find
the list of overseas Data Protection authorities on the Information
Commissioner's web site without success, so to save everyone else the same
bother:
a) If you want to know who does Data Protection elsewhere,
http://cs3-hq.oecd.org/scripts/pwv3/privcontacts.htm seems like a pretty
comprehensive list.
b) The Commissioner's web site completely fails to refer to the EC
decision published on 25/11/2003 (ref L308/27) that Guernsey has now been
approved for transfers.
c) The Isle of Man has its legislation in place and is awaiting EC
approval.
d) Jersey is last in the queue but is in the process of getting its
legislation in place, and their Data Protection office is hoping to get it
through this year. See http://www.dataprotection.gov.je/current.asp.
It beggars belief that this basic information is not readily accessible on
the Information Commissioner's web site (unless someone can point me in the
direction of something obvious that I have missed). Maybe we could all club
together and put up a shadow site to show what the Commissioner's site ought
to be like.
