Tim, Duncan
I agree with you that I would not trade with this or any other firm
using such marketing techniques. I thought I would share it with the
group to show an really bad example from a UK based firm
(disappointingly). I did not expect this kind of email marketing
behaviour from firms operatiing on these shores but I am very wrong to
think this.
I have not named the actual firm as I am using my work account for this
list and also I am not entirely sure whether I can do - a list FAQ on
the do's and don'ts might be useful in these circumstances for those who
air on the side caution like me. Do we have such a thing?
I hope that the recent anti-spam alliance of several major countries
(is it the UK, US, Canda and Australia?) will tackle these intrusions in
any event.

To me this is prima facie SPAM. I would send it to SpamCop, laws
notwithstanding, and also not trade with that corporation. But then I
am an
evil swine.

I used to be more of a slient member but I am starting to notice more
and
more DP related issues and feel that I have speak up -even though DP is
not
strictly within my remit.
We have a external facing email address for customers which of course
is
harvested by various mailing lists. We were sent a marketing email from
a UK
based firm with the following disclaimer:

I thought I would share this with the list to show how some firms
tackle
privacy and email marketing as this is common theme on this list. Some
obviously acheive this better than others.
