Dear list,
I am interested in talking with Disability Officers/Disability
Support staff about supporting social work students with unseen
impairments undertaking placements as part of their training. I
am a member of a HEFCE funded project exploring the barriers and
opportunities for disabled students on practice placements.Called
the PEdDS Project (Professional Education and Disability
Support)we are focussing on social work students in the first
instance. However, we anticipate that our findings will be of
relevance to other disciplines that incorporate placements in
their training programmes, for example, teaching, nursing,
medicine and other allied health professions. We want to use the
experiences of students and staff to produce Best Practice
guidance in the area of placements and professional education and
to do this effectively we would like to find out what is
happening 'out there' as many departments and support services
will have different approaches.
If you feel that you would like to contribute, please contact me
off-list for further discussion - [log in to unmask] or by
telephone on 01482 466168.Interviews can be conducted over the
telphone at a time/date to suit you.
Alternatively, this email might serve to generate discussion and
debate 'on-list' and it would be good if people could share both
positive and negative experiences of working with students on
professional training courses, especially in light of the
recent DRC Draft consultation to bring Qualifications Bodies
under the auspices of the DDA 1995.
With thanks in anticipation.
