Hi
I've been requested to design and partially deliver a module on
disability. It is to aim for Level 2 and will form part of a generic suite
of modules which students can choose from and opt into, eg Careers Ed, Work
experience etc.
The initial brief is very slim (?!); to cover Disability in the broad sense
and be relevant to students from Arts based courses, to Sport, to Science
and everything in-between. It is to involve 'witnesses' ie people who can
bring personal experience to aid the students' learning about a particular
area eg discrim in the work place--that sort of thing.
Delivery is to be via myself/ witnesses and tutors (yet to be told of this
plan?!). Given that it must hit students with various clashing timetables
there will be I think a lot of VLE delivery supported by facilitated
discussion groups and timetabled seminars. Assessment I have been advised,
must utilise CAA to make it cost effective ( I have operational doubts
here) with limited traditional assess methods.
Overall, I think the ethos is sound in that we want to create Graduates who
are socially aware etc etc, however getting them to that point is another
story!!
So my question. Has anyone been involved in a similar project? Do you have
any advice/ hints/ tips etc? Would you have module descriptors you'd be
prepared to share? I feel rather like I'm thrashing around in the dark at
present given all the constraints, so would really welcome any input
however small whilst I undertake a feasibility study into this proposal.
All info would be treated in confidence.
I'd be grateful if members could contact me directly--
[log in to unmask], unless you want to share your ideas.
Many thanks
