Dear all
We're in the process of implementing an Accessible Information Policy
which aims to help individual departments plan and prepare for requests
for materials in alternative formats. We're having ongoing debates
about who pays for this within the institution. It's the age-old
question about HEFCE funding and how this can be spent, who controls it
within your institution etc.
I'm hoping that individuals will be able to help me with this by saying
if this comes out of HEFCE funds, another centrally located budget, or
responsibility is mainstreamed to departmental budgets. I feel it's
important that with the correct support, information and planning
departments should have involvement in the process of producing
materials in alternative formats. In our minds, it's steering away
from the bolt-on extra, towards a more systematic and mainstreamed
approach.
I'd be really grateful to find out, on or off list how other
institutions are organising this provision and the overall management
of it, or if any of you have had similar debates in the past, present or
are gearing up for it in the future!
Many thanks
Emma
