As someone who has done a lot of recording of lectures in lecture
rooms, but has not done any accademic research on the matter, I
would opt for digital (providing you have mechanisms in place to
skip forward/back through elements as you have on tape) with a good
quality mono mike pointing at the front - near the lecturer.
