Dear Colleagues

is 'Mental Health: An Emerging Issue for Academic
Libraries'.

CLAUD Summer Conference 2003
Mental Health: An Emerging Issue for Academic Libraries

Streatham Court
University of Exeter
Friday 11th July 10.00 am - 4.30 pm

CLAUD is a consortium of librarians in Higher Education
networking to improve library access for disabled users in
the South and Southwest of England. In its well-established
annual Summer Conference series, CLAUD offers a forum for
finding practical solutions to the difficulties involved in
providing truly accessible library services. Further
details of CLAUD can be found on our website:
http://www.bris.ac.uk/claud/welcome.html

The provision of accessible services to users with mental
health difficulties is a challenge to library staff. This
Conference aims to give information and advice to front
line staff and others. The morning sessions will give an
overview of the wide spectrum of mental health issues and
how they relate to the academic sector. The afternoon
workshops explore practical issues in service provision.

Following the CLAUD tradition, for CLAUD members only the
Conference begins on Thursday with lunch, followed by the
Annual General Meeting (which will include a progress
report by Frankie Walters on the new CLAUD Survey). As
usual, evening entertainment and B&b are provided, all this
for a very modest fee!

The B&B is en-suite accommodation in Hope Hall, a short
walk from both the Library where the Thursday's AGM takes
place, and from Streatham Court where we shall hold the
Friday Conference.

For the Thursday evening entertainment, we are planning a
boat trip from Countess Wear along the Exeter Canal to the
Turf Hotel, which is on the banks of the Exe Estuary.
Transport to Countess Wear both ways plus a
complimentary drink are included. A range of bar meals (not

included in the fee) is available.
