I think your logic is a wee bit wonky, St.John, but then it is Friday,
so maybe mine will be also. I thought the needs assessment was the
forum for discussing the impact on studies of a disability. That's why
its called assessment and not Dodgy Dave's Big Time Give Away Bonanza
(apologies to all Daves out there, of which there does seem a
preponderance). Now it might feel like the latter to you sometimes, I
couldn't possibly comment, but how else would you propose to decide
impact or effect in a pre-emptive way? I suggest by setting up a 'do
you need a needs assessment assessment'. Why not? After all, one more
on top of the diagnostic assessment, disability officer's assessment,
needs assessment, and then the lordly, long-distance 'assessment' of
the student and his or her situation by the purse strings holder would
hardly be noticed. Perhaps you would like to arrange this. Now where do
we send these students along to for you to make your judgement?
On a serious(er) note, you do get that you see a selected group, right?
The students whom we advise not to apply for DSA for various reasons
never get to you. Maybe they sometimes go against advice, or sometimes
are receiving advice from other sources...blah blah blah. The theory
remains, I thought the 300 notes or whatever a needs assessment costs
was supposed to target the money so there wasn't spending drift rather
than the reverse.
