The police check issue should not be a problem. Unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults is the issue. The fact that a visually impaired student has a support worker with them means they are not working alone or unsupervised.

Subject: Support worker for a visually impaired trainee teacher
Dear all,
I was wondering if any of you have experience, advice or guide-lines for
the provision of a support worker to accompany a visually impaired
student on school experience? The student managed her first year
placement but feels that she needs support for the coming experience.
I have been in contact with RNIB and the person I need to speak to is
on holiday but will respond on her return.
I am hoping that the costs will be provided through the DSA (the person
who did the student's initial needs assessment has retired so I am
unable to follow that path).
The Head of Education has indicated that the person who is employed
as a support worker will need to be 'police checked'.
I am keen to know what other HEIs have done in these situations.
Any advice would be welcome. Guide-linesGuide-lines, rates, ???
The school experience is after Easter so I need to act on this quickly.
Many thanks
Pat
