You are invited to a seminar and workshop on the practical
implementation of the Data Protection Act on Tuesday 10th June at
Dillington House, Ilminster, Somerset. The event will be organised by
Alanis Training, and presented by me, Gill Smith, a DP practitioner with
14 years’ experience at Devon County Council, and now an independent
consultant.
The seminar will help you to ensure that Data Protection is effectively
managed in your organisation. The programme will include case studies
and typical situations encountered and will give you the opportunity to
share your experiences, queries or concerns with fellow delegates. This
will enable you to end the day 'armed' with practical solutions and
valuable ideas.
This seminar will help you gain a thorough understanding of the key
aspects of data protection and how to effectively handle them. Topics
include:-
Data Protection Act principles and applying them in practice
Managing your register entry - keeping it accurate and up to date
How to ensure individuals' rights are effectively respected and managed
Successfully communicating the importance of the Act
Understanding the implications of partnership working and information
sharing
Methods for responding to complaints, contraventions of the Act and
security incidents
Handling new 'data protection challenges' e.g. CRM, CCTV
Enhancing security awareness & basic appreciation of BS 7799
The cost is £245 plus VAT, and if you're a NADPO member it will be

The June 10th Data Protection Seminar is the first in a series of
seminars on the practical implementation of Data Protection and Freedom
of Information legislation There are two further seminars and workshops
planned to take place at Dillington House:-
Tuesday 16th September - Practical Implementation of the Freedom of
Information Act
Tuesday 7th October - Subject Access Workshop - with case studies.
