When I worked at University of North London we had lots of problems with
disappearing chairs because we (foolishly) bought them in the same corporate
colours as all the other chairs in the uni - ie royal blue. We got wise
after a while and bought orange ones. The only problem with this is that
people are effectively 'labelled' when they use them.
A frivolous thought: perhaps you could attach some kind of tracking
microchip like cats have in their ears....

Hi Roz. We have this situation here at falmouth. We purchased 2 special
chairs for a studnet to use in college and keep them at the 2 most
frequently used areas, in the lecturer's office in one area, so that he
goes and gets it out at start of session, and in IT dept, in the
technician's room where same applies. If he needs to use a chair in a
different building we get him to let us know the day before and get the
nearest one delivered via Caretaking to the appropriate place.
These chairs were £600 each so we could not afford to get dozens! He also
has one the same, funded through DSA in his accommodation.
hope this helps

Are other institutions finding that some students with physical disabilities
are requiring specialist seating on campus? If so, how have you ensured the
security of the chair? and how have you organised logistics when lectures
are in different buildings across the campus?
