Hi,
I have found that when doing any audio work on a laptop the best way
to go is to try and bypass the inbuilt audio. This is mainly because
the audio chip is very much controled via the system CPU, meaning that
you get interfeerence when the hard disk is running, for example,
aparently due to the electrical impulses this causes. I have not
looked to far into this issue. Some sound cards that you can buy will
use the USB port, and some will use the PCMCIA ports. Either should
work, and all should have a mic in socket.
