The Communication Support Unit (CSU) at the University of Wolverhampton is one of the largest educational interpreting providers in the UK. It supports students on a variety of degree courses as well as functioning as an interpreting agency both nationally and within the Wolverhampton area. The Unit now requires a full-time BSL/English Interpreter. You will join an established team of experienced interpreters and play a key role in delivering and developing high quality interpreting support for Deaf students at the University and the wider Deaf community.
You should be educated to 'A' level standard with 'A' level English or equivalent. You should also hold a degree/diploma in Interpreting or equivalent and be able to demonstrate advanced sign communication skills. You should have experience of working with a range of D/deaf and hearing impaired people and have good administrative and numeracy skills. You should also be willing to travel both intersite and to external agency bookings when required.
The post is linked to progression criteria allowing the employee who matches those criteria to progress onto SO1 level. In addition, as an employee of the University you will be eligible to join the University's pension scheme.
The opportunity for personal development is also possible through the staff development programme and the 'Pathways' scheme. Development via these schemes is free to University employees and, subject to Unit demands, time off for this can be negotiated and incorporated into your weekly timetable by the Unit's management team. This is a temporary two year appointment in the first instance. Ref A3395
