Hi Mike,
Your student obviously has a problem with his DM-1. This is what the
Olympus specification says.
Battery Life Recording: approx. 11 hours
Playback: approx. 8 hours
(according to Olympus tests using an alkaline dry cell battery
It's not wise to assume the battery is dud, but if it does get replaced,
the student absolutely MUST follow the initial charging instructions to
the letter from the manual, otherwise the battery develops a memory, or
in layman's terms, "a mind of its own".
