Dear All,
We have all been well aware of the 24 Hour care for disabled students issue
for some time now. The issue of collaboration between HEIs and social
services has long been problematic and can lead to increased problems for
disabled students whose needs are not met.
The DfES has contacted the Dept.of Health requesting a meeting to consider
responsibilities for funding personal assistants during a student's course.
The DfES would welcome case studies illustrating the types of personal care
required by both physically and mentally handicapped students during their
courses.
If you have such a case study, please let me know off list
([log in to unmask]). I will gather examples and forward them to the DfES.
Thank you in advance,
Kate Barnfield
Policy Officer
