Not sure what sorts of diagrams your student would need to create, but I
wonder if you could use Excel and its chart feature from sets of data to
produce anything appropriate?

I was just talking with David about this (sorry for the esoteric reference,
folks) and suggested Omnigraph. It does exactly what you are asking for.
It takes a bit of learning and isn't endlessly sophisticated (it's really
intended for A level maths students). Unfortunately, I suspect the student
might have more complex figures and diagrams to produce. Desktop publishing
will let you do anything eventually, but it's not simple or quick to operate
and so won't really help. Again, she might use something like a tablet, but
if she could use that efficiently, she'd be as well using paper. I take it
she wants to produce stuff weekly for her supervisions, so time is a factor
here? (Hey, I sound like the Wolfman.)
