Following my previous emails a number of people have contacted
me to ask where they can get more info on the Hays Evaluation
Method.
There's lots of information on the web. If your institution is thinking
of using it to evaluate jobs then they will be recruiting people from
within the uni to do the evaluator training - all kinds of support staff
from halls staff, security, admin etc. are trained. The idea is that
trained evaluators grade the jobs based on job descripitons - so you
would be wise to ensure that your job description is well written as
an assessor or disability adviser and reflects the impact your job has
on the insititution.
You might want to "volunteer" to do the training to see what its
about - enquire with your human resources department. There is a
requirement to ensure a fair spread of gender and ethnicity on the
teams (ironically in our unit the majority of posts which were
downgraded were women's and the two that were upgraded were
men's).
The team that graded my job had two days training. I put in an
appeal and am stillwaiting to hear, but following that have also
volunteered and done the training. They increased the number of
days training to three after a lot of people put in appeals who were
downgraded across the uni.
According to the blurb Hays can evaluate any type of job ranging
from a chief exec to deep sea diver - but academics and the AUT
don't agree with this
