The first NILD training course in the UK
Hosted by Efficient Learning.
Last November Efficient Learning introduced the work of the National Institute of Learning Disabilities (NILD) to teachers, parents and students from across the UK. Dr. Kathy Hopkins, Executive Director of NILD was the guest speaker at this event in Aylesbury.
Efficient Learning will, this summer, host the inaugural NILD training course in the UK.
Over the years NILD has developed a unique one-to-one teaching method for children of average and above-average ability, with specific learning difficulties. Schools and private practitioners in more than thirty countries now use the NILD method.
The 10-day course will run from 3rd to 15th August at the North Marston School near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The course is designed for qualified teachers, other graduates and undergraduates with relevant experience, who wish to specialise in working with children with specific learning difficulties.
Trainees will look at a number of core techniques used in the NILD method along with the theory underpinning it and techniques for assessment. Course members will become acquainted with the revolutionary method of Rhythmic Writing. Phonics and the use of cursive writing are also crucial in this approach. There is a mathematics component, as well as a number of other techniques which address spatial and visual skills, as well as areas such as sequencing and short-term visual or auditory memory difficulties.
Delegates will practice the techniques on colleagues and will be assessed throughout the two-week course. This is the first stage in the three-tier training scheme provided by NILD. Ongoing supervision and follow-up of trainees is a key part of this training.
If you have experience of teaching or a degree in a related field and a vocation for working with those with special needs then this may be the course for you.
