Dear Anna
Our Note taking for Disabled students in HE course that we run in Central
London at the City Lit Centre for Deaf People every half term (5 days 10.00
to 5.00) is actually a nice introduction to work in the disability field.
There are two units - one is about working with disabled people and the
other is about practical note taking skills. We have lectures from disabled
people, a test on the DDA, work on interpersonal skills and discussions on
the role of note takers and others working with disabled students as well as
the practical note taking. As note taking is a growing field it gives
people an idea of the high level of skill expected in this field. The
course is accredited by LOCN at level 3. We have had a wide variety of
people from the field of disability attending including 2 Disability Co
ordinators and a manager of a Disability Organisation, tutors and potential
and existing note takers. Any one wishing to take the area further can
attend our one day Note taking Tutor Course run 3 times a year on a
Saturday.
We make the course fun and realise that many note takers will move on to
other jobs in the Disability field so we have many interesting discussions
during the week.
I hope you will find this information useful
