The problem with such a system, which operates in quite a few
institutions these days, is that tutors are usually a little bewildered
as to how they are expected to respond to this information when
marking the exam script. Few will have had the opportunity to
attend any "How to mark the exam scripts of dyslexic students"
training sessions. Asking tutors not to penalise poor spelling and
grammar is all well and good, but a word used incorrectly or
omitted can change the whole sense of the phrase. For example,
does the tutor marking the script, with an External Examiner
looking over their shoulder, make the assumption that the student
meant the opposite when reading a sentence that perhaps should
have included the word "not"?
