Maths Optical Character Recognition
We released a beta version of our integrated O C R software "Infty
O C R" to recognize scientific documents including mathematical
expressions. You can download a package files from our Web site:
http://infty.math.kyushu-u.ac.jp
It is usable free of charge, under the license agreements described in
the file license_eng.txt included in the package.
The system recognizes only carefully scanned binary page images in
either 400 D P I or 600 D P I. The image files have to be prepared
in T I F F Group-3 or Group-4 (black and white) format. The source
document has to be clearly printed. To get better recognition results,
users are recommended to erase "noise", pictures and tables before the
recognition.
This software is released in the form of a plug-in of a mathematical
document editor called "InftyEditor", another software developed in
our Laboratory and sold from C A I System Corporation. Using
InftyEditor, you can edit recognition results easily, and save the
results as LaTeX files, H T M L file, as well as in a form of a
"Human Readable TeX" format for visually impaired persons.
You can download InftyEditor also from the same web site mentioned
above, or from http://www.caisystem.co.jp/infty/
Looking forward to your kind reports on our software, Best regards,
Masakazu Suzuki Faculty of Mathematics Kyushu University 36, Fukuoka,
