The Study of the Records Lifecycle on the JISC website at
http://www.jisc.ac.uk/index.cfm?name=srl_structure section 3 Student
Administration under 3.7 Student Admissions suggests current academic year
plus one year for retention but there doesn't seem to be a legal basis for
this as such.

Subject: course application forms from potential students
Dear all
I believe that the code of practice for employment suggests that
application forms from unsuccessful job applicants be destroyed after 6
months. I haven't found any advice re course applications from potential
students, but am considering adopting the same practice. Has anyone on
the list who works in the academic domain dealt with this issue yet?
