Comparatively recently I was grateful to my bank for having recorded my conversation (and myself for having jotted the date of the call onto my piece of paper - the time of the conversation too would have been even better but I was able to give them a fairly accurate idea luckily (and I tend to jot that down now!)).
An operator had cancelled several DDs/Standing Orders and had made an error on one of them which I discovered when British Gas wrote to me and I had to go to the trouble of setting it back up. I complained to my bank (reasonably but friendly) and they said that they would investigate. They tracked down the tel conversation, found out I was correct and then sent me a very apologetic letter and put £30 into my account as compensation!
My first posting to this list so can I just say thank you to you all - discussions very informative and helpful in keeping on track with this continuously evolving legislation ;-)

It might help if recordings of conversations were clearly and
transparently available to 'ratepayers', in the event that they get into
a dispute with the local authority regarding what was said on the phone.
Promises made and broken. However, I rather doubt this is what the OP is
expecting his recordings to provide.
