A follow-up to last month's message on web monitoring/alerting services
is that Ananova users will no longer be able to get news alerts by
email (see below). Over the last couple of years I've found this an
invaluable service for monitoring developments/news relating to higher
education and the Internet, and have also encouraged end-users to sign
up for it.
However, unlike announcements relating to the end of other "free"
alerting services, Ananova is not choosing to charge for the service
but moving it to another platform (text) tied in with a telecomm
provider.

You will still be able to see the latest news at www.ananova.com,
wap.ananova.com and pda.ananova.com
If you are an Orange customer you'll still be able to get news alerts,
sent by text message, listen to Ananova's personalised news bulletins
on your Orange phone, and see your personal page on the Orange web and
WAP sites.
From today Ananova users will no longer be able to get news alerts by
email.

Ananova email news.
The new service officially launches on May 28.
