Katherine,
We currently fund on the basis of recommendations either/or. There are
equally strong arguments for either approach, and on that basis we do not
totally exclude either strategy. The main arguments against glasses tend to
be a cost driven. A student with both dyslexia and manual dexterity problems
would have a strong case for glasses, which raises the general point that
each case, as ever, needs to be treated on it's own merits, and a blanket
policy will not neatly solve this particular question.
It's a little harsh asking you for a full defence of your position, in
writing - sound's terribly legalistic! However, we did contact Darlington on
this very issue earlier this week, and they have said they'll get back to us
with a response - so we'll see. Naturally we'll let you know.
