Blind in Business are running the popular training course Total Technology
in London.  The free course is for 14-24 year olds, held at:

The Pocklington Resource Centre, Balham, London (Nearest tube station
Clapham South)

>From 10am to 3pm the Total Technology course is designed to enable visually
impaired people to make their own decisions about the technology they use.
It aims to build the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to take an
active part in choosing and using IT.

CONFIDENCE

Myth and Legend
Introductory session designed to stimulate discussion and develop
participants understanding of the real potential of  mainstream  and
 adaptive  technology to improve opportunities and achievement at home, in
education and employment.

Technology Teams
Practical exercise in which participants identify others they can use as an
advisory group to offer different perspectives on the process of identifying
appropriate technology.

Me, Me, Me
Participants are guided through a process through which they can evaluate
and prioritise their present and potential technology requirements.
Personal considerations, learning styles, education and career plans are
incorporated into this process.

KNOWLEDGE

Information Exchange
Presentation to signpost sources of information on technology products and
services, explain technical terms and jargon.

Face the Feature
Exercise to build a short-list of equipment available to meet the
requirements identified earlier.

SKILLS

The critical moment
Using a checklist of questions, participants critically evaluate their
short-lists.  Using role-play, the group works through the process of
planning, receiving and evaluating a product demonstration with
participation from a technology supplier.

Inform - action
Revision and summary of the course.  Each participant will finalise a
self-developed technology assessment based on informed choices and
decisions. Sources of on-going support are identified.
