I am seeking advice on providing access to x-rays, particularly on the
copying of films for solicitors. It is not uncommon for Trusts to be asked
to copy 50 or more films but the £50 maximum charge applicable barely covers
the costs of copying 1 film. The options being considered out in the
service are:
1. to digitise x-ray films using a scanner and to distribute them to
solicitors in electronic form on CD-ROM.
2. to provide only photocopies of reports and refuse to supply any films at
all, on the basis that the report is the permanent legal document and the
film is just a transitory record
3. to send the original films
Does anyone know of the legal position of these options?
