Just a quick warning note - if the 'nature' of the machine changes it
looses it special VAT status.
More details can be found in the VAT regulations on disabled users
equipment.

Subject: Adding own funds to the equipment allowance
I just noticed a useful bit of guidance in the new DfES Student Support
Update. The DfES are advising LEAs that they should allow students to
add
their own funds to the equipment allowance recommended in their DSA
Study
Aids/Strategies Assessment if he/she wants to improve the recommended
spec. (e.g. for non-disability/course-related reasons) at the point of
purchase. I know that the moment that some LEAs do and some don't allow
this. This should be on the DfES website:-
