ACCESS SUMMIT, MANCHESTER - JOINT UNIVERSITIES’ DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTRE
STUDY SKILLS TUTOR COORDINATOR
(for Dyslexic and Disabled Students in Higher Education)
The Access Summit Centre is a growing resource for disabled students
studying in the four universities of Manchester and Salford.
We are seeking to recruit to the full time post of Study Skills Tutor
Coordinator primarily to coordinate a large team of part time study skills
tutors and deliver study skills tuition to university students. The post
will be offered initially for a two year period.
Responsibilities will include supporting the development and maintenance of
the Access Summit Register of Study Skills Tutors including: recruitment;
training and mentoring of new tutors; allocating work to tutors; delivering
study skills tuition to dyslexic and disabled students, both individually
and in small groups; preparing information sheets, guidance handbooks and
information for the website; assisting in the development and delivery of
Staff Training within the consortium universities; and undertaking
Assessments of Need (Study Aids and Strategies) for students applying for
Disabled Students Allowance (training will be provided to develop assessor
skills).
Applicants should have a degree and full Teaching Certificate or equivalent,
a certificate in teaching people with specific learning difficulties,
experience of working with adults with dyslexia, knowledge of the nature of
dyslexia and its implications for studying in higher education, excellent
organisational skills and a good standard of IT Literacy.
Commencing salary will be within the range: £20,470 - £26,491 per annum.
Consideration will be given to applicants who would like to undertake the
role in a job share capacity.
