post code lottery again! In Nottingham we have a Fire and Rescue service
that does not allow us to use refuges, we have to have an individual
emergency evacuation plan for each student who cannot under any
circumstances even attempt the stairs. This is horribly restrictive, and
actually whilst I am here can I ask my colleagues at Nottingham University
to comment either on or off list as presumably we share the same fire
service...is it the same for you?

Hello Claire
As I understand it, any student who cannot use the stairs as an
escape route should go to a designated 'refuge point' (usually on the
landing behind a fire proof door) and wait for a member of the fire
services to get them. If you get any different advice or information
I would appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks, Roz
