Hi,
We have just finished a policy document for web site managers (information
providers) in the various departments in the University. A large section
of this explains how to create accessible pages. We have planned to phase
the W3C guidelines in 3 stages. Stage1 will be that all sites must comply
with the priority 1 W3C guidlines. Then Stage 2 and 3 respectively. The
intention is to phase this in as many information providers require further
training in order to ensure that they have enough coding experience to
implement this. This training is already available for those who require
it and further training courses are currently in development.
The intention is that all our external pages will be both W3C and Bobby
approved by September 2002. Departments are already working on their own
in order to comply. We will continue to offer BETSIE as well since many
users have stated that they like the flexibility. We agree that there is
no substitute for a well coded and accessible page, but we also feel that
as some users have stated that they like BETSIE, we should provide both for
the time being.
Our draft code of practice still has some work to do on it and has still to
be approved. However, if anyone is interested I'll gladly make a copy
"work done so far" available to them.
