Hi Caroline
As a supplier of services to Students under DSA, we too would be very keenly
interested
to know how the payments will be made, direct, via LEAs or via Students.
Where we have
supplied services to Students under DSA through NHS, the payment is via
Students, and
the problems have been manifold, and difficult to resolve, as the students
have a tendency
towards 'diversion'. We now only supply to NHS Students on the basis of
payment at the time,
therefore delaying their receipt of service until the payment has made to
them up front.
We would not want to see similar problems and methods being brought into the
mainstream
of DSA services.

Hi Caroline,
As a supplier of DSA funded equipment I would be very interested to know if
the SLC will make payments direct to students, direct to suppliers, or via
the LEA?
Best regards,
Antony

Dear all
Some of you may be aware that, under the DfES modernisation programme,
there
are plans for DSA payments to be taken over by the Student Loans Company in
the future, though the decision-making will remain with LEAs. Skill has
received reports of concerns about the quality of service provided by the
SLC currently and the effect this will have on students in receipt of DSAs
if payments do not arrive when expected etc.
Many of you may not deal with the SLC directly under the new system, but
those of you on list from LEAs will do, and the disability officers amongst
you may have some experience, if not directly perhaps through incidental
feedback from disabled students discussing their general financial
struggles.
I am just trying to find out whether this is a real issue before Skill
takes
it up.
Thanks in advance
Caroline
