Dear all
Some of you will be aware of the review of DSA administration that has been
taking place at the DfES over the last year. Currently the Department is
implementing the recommendations of the Skill report on this subject
(summary of this report has previously been posted on dis-forum). A round
table meeting was held recently at which many 'round the table' raised the
issue of lack of funding for dyslexia diagnostic assessments. Such an
assessment is an essential passport to DSAs so the effect of not being able
to fund one is severe. The DfES thinks it cannot extend hardship funding to
fund such an assessment for all students who need it without breaking the
essential remit of the 'hardship' fund - (ie means tested hardship).
However, they are receptive to evidence (quantitative and qualitative) from
the sector illustrating the scale and effect of the problem. So this is your
chance to supply such evidence. If you send your evidence to me, I will
co-ordinate responses and pass on the information to the Department.
Thanks
Caroline
