The cheapest way for many students to insure equipment is to add it to their
parent's home contents insurance as 'goods temporarily removed from the
home'. Not all students will have this option but it is worth asking. Eagle
Star provide £2,000 of cover free of charge in their Home Policy. This may
not quite cover all equipment but other insurers may offer better cover for a
small aditional premium.
I've relied on this 3 times for my sons. I've luckilly never had to claim but
my broker assures me that the cover is as good as any other on the market and
advised me not to bother with specific additional insurance.
I always advise students I assess to ask about this option to see if it
available to them.

Subject: Insuring equipment
Dear all
Has anyone had any problems with refusals for insurance costs to
specifically cover computer, monitor and other items purchased through
the DSA?
