Can anyone give me reassurance/guidance on disabled stud ents using support
assistants in labs. A support assistant is working with a disabled student
in a lab. The work is part of his independent study and he is therefore
likely to be in the lab on his own (with assistant). Students are usually
asked to sign a form when carrying out module practicals to acknowledge
they understand the necessary health and safety issues concerned and have
understood the directions given by the tutor. Should the support assistant
sign this form as well as the student? Also if the support assistant is
employed directly by the student , not the institution, who's liability
insurance covers the situation? Would giving the support assistant training
in advance by a lab technician around safe working be sufficient? Any tips
gratefully receieved,
