A brief update if I may on our new unit CATER and details of four job
vacancies which may be of interest
An OU Access Centre is being set up at our Walton Hall campus at Milton
Keynes and should be officially opened in early June though taking on work
well before then. We have applied for membership of NFAC. The Access Centre
will be supported by a specially designed and fully equipped Access Bus for
outreach needs assessments which is already in use.
We have just appointed Robin Stenham as Development Manager (Curriculum
Access). As you may know, Phil Satchell is the Manager of the OU Access
Centre. Robin and Phil will be supported by four full-time Development
Officers whose duties will include a combination of Access Centre work (e.g.
needs assessments) and curriculum development (i.e.helping to embed
accessibility into new learning technologies such as multimedia and the Web
in response to SENDA and for other reasons). We feel combining these two
activities will be good for the people appointed, good for the institution
and good for our students and customers
One of the four posts requires recent experience of supporting students with
dyslexia. They are all on the academic-related grade 2 scale (£20,267 -
£26,229) and initially for 3 years.
Closing date for applications: 22 February. See
http://www.open.ac.uk/employment/vacancies/ext16360.htm The add is rather
brief (in keeping with current OU recruitment policy) but I'll be very happy
to supply further information. Sorry this message is so long
