Hi Pauline,
I can't give you a simple answer. Staff can keep books out for
up to 12 months so I am not sure if length of time is the
issue or whether it is his memory and organisational
difficulties. There is a annual date for staff renewal
after which books become overdue. The library have sent
multiple reminders using different modes of communication
over a significant period of time. I am sure the library will
view the case with some flexibility and it is routine here to
work with someone to avoid it happening again.
The issue is one of whether the library policy on
disabilities should change. The staff member feels that
the policy should be that unless someone else requests a book
people with dyslexia /dyspraxia should be able to keep books
out and all overdue fines be waived on the basis of
disability. The Library seek guidance on this issue.
kind regards
Emma
