Please find below details of a training session being offered by the
Centre for the Promotion of Social Inclusion at MMU, please
contact me off list if you are interested in attending.
The SNAPE and DATE Projects are ESF funded and
complementary. The broad aims of both
projects are to demonstrate both to potential students and
staff at MMU that disability barriers
can be overcome in order that disabled students can study
effectively in Higher Education.
SNAPE aims to develop an on-line diagnostic tool to
support disabled people into a learning
environment, which furthers their personal development.
DATE aims to increase the number of
suitably qualified disabled people accessing teacher
training opportunities.
Both projects will explore, examine and research the
nature of individual disability, the
environment necessary to support it and the skills of
facilitation required by our lecturers, support
staff and technicians to stimulate it. This training supports
these aims
The projects are timely in view of the wider legislative
context.
The 2001 Special Educational Needs and Disability Act
makes it unlawful from 1st September
2002 for the University, or any other responsible body, to
discriminate against a disabled person.
It is the duty of all staff in the University to work towards
compliance.
Training Aim:
All staff will benefit from this training. The aim is to provide
information on assistive, adaptive and
enabling technologies, which can create a level playing
field situation for people with disabilities in
Higher Education and at MMU in particular. This session
provides practical advice,
demonstration and information about products, which are
available to assist those with
disabilities. Tutors will not only gain an awareness of what
aids and adaptations can be accessed
and obtained by those with disabilities, but also how an
inclusive teaching and learning
environment can be promoted by effective means at MMU.
