Dear Shari,
The situation may be different in the UK but I have applied to the Academic
Registrar of this university to get failures removed from several students'
academic records. The students obtained medical documentation and I wrote
letters of support. They approved removal of failures for medical conditions
such as undiagnosed epilepsy but not for an undiagnosed learning disability
(very severe). They also seem to be more reluctant to change grades or award
Special examinations if the student has passed the subject. I think it would
be worth a try approaching the faculty to see if anything could be done for
this student. In my experience, students with psychiatric disabilities are
the most likely to be misunderstood and subjected to discrimination in
universities as well as the wider community. It is also very common here for
students with depression to be unaware that it is legally regarded as a
disability and to approach us late in their degree.
Hope this is helpful.
Regards,
Anne

Can other disability advisers, etc please give me some assistance
with my query please?
Could you please advise me on how your institution would proceed
with the following scenario:
3rd year student discloses a disability (clinical depression, had
substantial effect on day to day life - has had for approx 8 yrs now
controlled by medication), didn't realise it was classed as a
disability.
Has asked if assessments from previous years can possibly be
reassessed due to the fact she had a disability at that time (but
institution was not aware of it at the time).
What would your institutions do please?
I would appreciate all advice and assistance on this.
Many thanks
Shari
