Applications are invited for the post of Student Disability Officer. You
will join a team of other student-related specialist colleagues (in the
areas of student welfare, counselling, careers) reporting to the Deputy
Secretary and based at the School’s Vernon Square campus (Islington/King’s
Cross). You will liaise with students and staff in academic/central support
departments, Faculties and the Students’ Union on both campuses (Russell
Square and Vernon Square) to enable students with disabilities to
participate fully in the School’s educational and related services. You
will be responsible for completing the last five months of the HEFCE ‘strand
one’ project to improve provision for students with disabilities, including
updating and evaluating policies, procedures and guidelines, offering staff
development and facilitating and disseminating developments in good practice
across the institution. Throughout the year you will have a student
caseload, advising students of internal and external procedures to be
accessed, monitoring student disability statistics, and using this to inform
the development of policy.
The successful candidate will be a graduate with experience in higher
education disability issues at both practical and policy levels, and an
understanding of the legislation. In addition, the postholder must have
excellent communication, organisational, budget and project management
skills.
Annual leave is 30 days pro rata per year plus statutory and bank holidays.
USS pension scheme will be available.
