UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Academic Services Department
(Registrar's Division)
Disability Co-ordinator
Disability Support Officer
(two posts)
The Academic Services Department is a pivotal part of UCL's central administration and responsible for a wide range of activities, including the
provision of advisory and support services to students with disabilities. These services are provided through our access centre, which has as its
main objective the full integration into the educational life of UCL of all learners with disabilities. We are looking to appoint two staff to run the
access centre - a Disability Co-ordinator, responsible for managing the centre, and a Disability Support Officer, who will assist the Co-ordinator.
These are key posts in the context of UCL's widening participation strategy. The two postholders will need to form a strong and effective
partnership to develop the services of the access centre. It will be essential for the Disability Co-ordinator and desirable for the Disability Support
Officer to bring to their respective posts substantial experience of advising people with disabilities, as well as a knowledge and understanding of
higher education (and, in particular, of local education authority, etc, processes for the award of disabled student allowance). Excellent
communication, IT and administrative skills are essential in both posts.
The post of Disability Co-ordinator will be paid according to ability and experience on an appropriate point of the scale £22,604-£28,625 (including
London allowance). In determining salary, UCL will take into account previous or current experience as a disability co-ordinator in another
university or similar organisation.
The post of Disability Support Officer will be paid according to ability and experience on an appropriate point of the scale £19,460-£22,185
(including London allowance).
Further particulars and application forms for both posts are available from the Academic Services Department, UCL, Gower Street, London WC1E
6BT (telephone 020 7679 5774; fax 020 7679 5789; e-mail - [log in to unmask]). Four copies of the completed application form and current
curriculum vitae should be sent to the Director of Academic Services, Registrar's Division, UCL, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT, to arrive by no
later than 16 September 2002. Interviews for both posts will take place during the week commencing 23 September 2002.
