Dorset will probably have about 20,000 employees and will have to deal
with SAR's for volumes of manual records (ie Social Services &
Education) so it has the potential to be a massive job.
There's a public sector pay award still outstanding when the unions
finally settle the current dispute. 3% was offered and refused, so that
would increase it a bit.
Last year I think it was Tesco who advertised a Data Protection
Manager's post (only dp remember!) for about £43K so there's a big gap
between the public and private sectors not just on salary but on
responsibility as well. If the job says DPO, in Local Government that
person will be the "Real" DPO - it won't be on anyone else's job
description.

Dorset County Council have recently advertised for a records manager,
data
protection and freedom of information officer for £25,473-£28,422.
Susan.

If it helps,
Not that this will be of much help to you, in the (old) Universities
they
vary
from Grade 2 to Grade 3 (possibly 5). In either case they will DP will
be
one of
many activities. If the real DP person is a Grade 5 or 6 then you can
expect a
more junior person eg. Grade 2 to wear the hat of the DPO.
To translate grades to salaries look here:
