The employer would be in breach of the DPA if they passed on employees
information without the employee's consent. Similarly, the employer should
not use employee information for direct marketing purposes without seeking
the consent of the employee for such purposes.
I understand that some organisations seek the consent to disclose the
details to TUs when the employee starts.
