Since this e-mail started the rounds I asked my colleagues if they objected
to the Wallcharts and they have no issues with it as it does not record the
type of illness - let's face it - we record in our Outlook Calendars if we
are going on Annual Leave etc. so there are various places this type of
information can be obtained. Often in MS Outlook if someone is going to be
away from the office indefinitely an Out of Office by a Line Manager may
indicate absence due to sickness....
I take your point though Tommy but surely it is only "sensitive" if the
actual illness is apparent and if any colleagues have been sick everyone
usually asks out of kindness if they are better - and normally they tell us
about their illness and if it was sensitive to them then they would normally
say something on the lines of "I'd rather not talk about it".
Could this not be seen as Management Forecasting - one of the exemptions of
DP..I am sure if I had my own business I would not like to think an employee
was abusing the system and like with Data Matching it will only be people
who have something to hide that would not want this information on a
wallchart!!!!
I suppose there will be various opinions on this issue but we're all happy
to have it on a Wallchart in Scottish Borders - "explicit consent"???
