The West Midlands Local Authorities Data Protection Forum have produced a
Code of Practice for The Data Protection Act 1998. This COP contains flow
charts for dealing with SAR's, a plain English explanation of the legal
powers/rules for dealing with these and even a series of sample letters to
be used. The letters/Flowcharts include all interactions you may have with
Data Subjects, including requests to cease processing and requests for 3rd
party data.
It really is easy to understand and follow - but I would say that I helped
write it!!
For further details about the COP contact either the forum's chairman Paul
Couldrey on 01902 554498 [log in to unmask]) or secretary
Andy Shipway on 0121 569 3351 ([log in to unmask]).
By the way the Code is also available electronically for intranet publishing
- staff awareness.

Why has the Commissioners Office not issued a Code of Practice for Subject
Access?
Perhaps OIC thinks the basic compliance advice documents are enough?
Or maybe because BSI DISC manual that was written by BSI in association
with OIC contains one in section PD0012-7:2001?
Commercial considerations rule, I guess.
