Can anyone shed any light?
We are currently reviewing our Internet and e-mail policy, and I am looking
for some advice on the retention of e-mails. We backup our e-mail server
every night to tape, we keep the tapes for about 3 months. We are looking at
some form of optical storage facility of all e-mails in a log, so that
recovery of an e-mail is available for FOI.
If we didn't do this, and a person claimed to want access to an e-mail from
more than 3 months ago, what would be the legal position? Would our policy
stand up, "the e-mail has been deleted, and the backup copy has been purged,
we do not have a copy of the said e-mail".
Any comments greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
