I would be grateful for information on the various legal authorisations
investigating bodies have.
For investigating bodies I am thinking in particular of the Police, but
also Customs, Immigration, Social Security, local authorities and others.
1) What is covered by an arrest warrant? Does it include removal of
property? Can it cover investigating a person's PC? Is there a difference if
the PC is networked?
2) What is covered by a search warrant? Does it include removal of property?
Can it cover investigating a person's PC? Is there a difference if the PC is
networked?
3) For access to information held on an IT system, I see from recent replies
it is either DPA 29(3) or RIPA s.21. If the information is in manual files,
I presume it is the DPA only. Is that correct?
4) What other types of legal authorisations are there and what do they
cover?
