My take is that the disclosure, while accidental, is unlawful. My own view
would be to forgive after an apology, but it IS the Cabinet Office and I am
SO tempted to suggest more.
There but for the grace of God go we all. We have all had instances of
this, I think, within our own organisations.

How far do you want to take it? Does it constitute an unlawful disclosure by
the Cabinet Office?

Even better, now each of the enquirers HAS the data, are they not each duty
bound to inform each of the others that they have a data record containing
the other person's contact details?
I started this thought somewhat tongue in cheek, but suddenly the awesome
reality of the law hit me. Besides, I love taking a pop at authority!

Surely if the enquirers contact each other then they're breaching the DPA?
This information wasn't fairly obtained!!! ;-)

How wonderful that thing called irony.
I received an e-mail from the Cabinet Office telling me the PIU report on
"Privacy and Data Sharing" was now available on the PIU website.
The message to me contained the e-mail addresses (some of which are personal
data) of all the people who had made similar enquiries about the report.
Obvious example of the need for privacy? Or a subtle example of data sharing
for consultation purposes - enabling all enquirers to contact each other to
discuss responses to the report's proposals?
I'm already confused.
